Registration Information
STUDENTS MAY REGISTER BY MAIL, BY FAX OR IN PERSON Monday through Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Faxed registrations must include payment by VISA or MasterCard only. Students may also register for New Perspectives courses for credit on Graduate School registration dates. For security reasons we are unable to accept phone registration.

Registrations are accepted on a space-available, first-come first-served basis. All registrations will be acknowledged by return mail. If it is close to the course date you may verify your registration by calling the New Perspectives office at 212/ 875.4649. Students matriculated at Bank Street must obtain their advisor's signature on their form prior to registering for courses for credit.
Payments may be made by check, money order, VISA or MasterCard. Registrations for courses must be accompanied by payment in full. Include a stamped, self-addressed envelope with your registration if you wish to receive a bursar's receipt for credit card payments. Personnal checks are not accepted after the posted registration deadline. Check course description for registration deadlines.
Tuition and Fees: are subject to approval by the Bank Street College Board of Trustees.
Registration Fees for courses taken for credit must include a nonrefundable registration fee. The registration fee in any one semester is $50 for 1 to 3 credits, and $100 for 4 or more credits. Students taking courses in both the Graduate School and New Perspectives should combine credits taken with each in calculating the applicable registration fee.
- There is no registration fee for courses taken for CEU or Audit.
- Registration received after the posted registration deadline is subject to a $25 late registration fee. Registration deadlines are posted at the end of course descriptions.
Tuition Reduction for Bank Street Alumns and Professional Association Members: BSC alumni and professional association members will receive a 30% tuition reduction for courses taken for credit. Simply note that you are an alumn on the registration form or enclose a photocopy of the association identification with your registration form. Discounted tuition rate is $740 per credit. NB: Reduction applies to tuition for credit only, not CEU/Audit/No credit or study abroad tuition or materials and registration fees.
Changes of Registration
- Changes must be submitted in writing to the New Perspectives office no later than one week preceding the first class meeting date and are subject to a $15 fee. No withdrawals/refund requests will be accepted after that time.
- Change from credit to CEU/Audit will be accepted up until (but no later than) the beginning of the second class session.
- Only the student named on the registration form may attend a course.
- Should an emergency prevent a student from attending a workshop, a full refund will be processed upon receipt of a written request and documentation of the emergency.
Attendance at all class sessions is required. A student who misses the first class session, may not attend future class sessions. Refunds or transfers are only processed in case of emergencies. (See emergency policy under Changes of Registration.) For exceptions, both the instructor and the New Perspectives office must grant permission.
- Children are not permitted in class and may not be left unattended on Bank Street College Property.
- No one will be admitted to either State Mandated Training after the posted start time and there are no refunds/transfers for late arrivals.
Assignments for courses taken for one credit must be received by the instructor two weeks after the final class meeting. Courses taken for two or three credits must be received by the instructor four weeks after the final class meeting.
Incompletes: Students are expected to complete the work for a credit-bearing course two weeks following the end of the course. If a student finds that s/he is unable to finish assignments within two weeks, s/he may request a grade of Incomplete (IN). Incompletes are granted at the discretion of the instructor. If granted, the student and instructor must agree on a final due date for submission of the outstanding work. To receive credit for the course, the student must complete all requirements by the date set. Extensions are limited to:
- March 15th for fall semester courses,
- June 15th for spring semester courses and
- September 15th for summer semester courses.
If work is not received by these due dates, the Incomplete is changed to No Credit (NC).
In exceptional circumstances, students my petition the New Perspectives office for additional time to make up incomplete work. The New Perspectives office will notify the student in writing of approval or denial of her/his request. Upon approval, students are required to pay a $25 processing fee. In some instances the student may be required- in addition to making up the assignment- to repeat the class, in which case there may be additional fees.
In no instance may a student make up incomplete course work beyond six months from the last class session.
Grade Reports / Transcripts / Letters of Attendance:
- Grade Reports are issued after the end of each semester. Students who must have their grade before that time may request an early grade report by notifying both the New Perspectives office and the instructor at the time the course is given.
- For an official transcript, students must submit a written request to the Registrar's Office at 212/875.4406. Students requesting official transcripts should confirm that their grade has been entered before ordering.
- A letter of attendance for classes taken for CEU/Audit may be obtained by submitting a written request to the New Perspectives office, along with a $5 check or money order (fee increases to $7 starting 7/1/08).
Cancellation of Courses: All courses are subject to minimum enrollment. When courses are cancelled by the College for any reason, students may transfer to another course or receive a full refund. New Perspectives reserves the right to cancel any course for which there is insufficient enrollment and to withdraw or modify course offerings. Course locations, fees, and instructors may also be changed when necessary.
Applying New Perspectives Credits Toward a Bank Street Degree: Everyone is welcome to take New Perspectives courses at Bank Street College as non-matriculated students. Any student who is considering matriculation in the Bank Street Graduate School should apply for admission prior to accumulating more than three credits. New Perspectives courses are considered elective credits toward a Bank Street degree and many programs allow for only three or four elective credits.
New York and New Jersey Professional Development Hours: New Perspectives courses are recognized by the New York and New Jersey Education Departments as qualifying for the 125 and 100 clock hours of professional development, respectively. New York State Child Care Incentive Program (EIP) The Educational Incentive Program is a scholarship program designed to assist child care providers in obtaining the training and education they need to provide quality child care to children. Child care providers must be caring for children in a facility regulated by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services or the New York City Department of Health. Tax Credits and Deductions: Tuition for New Perspectives courses may qualify for a Lifetime Learning Tax Credit or count as a work-related educational deduction on your federal tax return. Financial Aid: The following two loans are available to graduate students registered for one or more credits. Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent residents registered for at least one graduate credit. No school certification is required. Please apply directly to the loan company.
