Sonja Carter is the Vice President for Development and External Relations. In this role, she leads Bank Street’s alumni relations, fundraising, and communications strategies, thereby strengthening connections between the College’s stakeholders and the success of its programs.
Prior to joining Bank Street, Sonja served as the Dean for Development, Alumni Relations, and Communications at Columbia Law School, bringing decades of philanthropic and legal experience to bear as she closed the Law School's most successful campaign in its history. Prior to running the alumni office at the Law School, Sonja ran Columbia University's Planned Giving Office, working with alumni and friends of all 16 schools at that institution.
Originally from the midwest, Sonja received both her BA and JD (cum laude) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, going on to also receive her MS in Fundraising Management from Columbia University. She has two daughters in the School for Children, and served as a volunteer fundraiser for the School for Children for several years.
